Bakoyannis reminds Vucinqi of the negotiations with Kosovo: You have acknowledged the existence of two countries.

Greek MP Dora Bakoyannis received the first word at the Parliamentary Assembly on 16 April to justify the report compiled by her, which recommends Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe. In an opinion on the Serbian weekly, Radar, Bakoyannis has written about the attacks made to her by the leadership in Belgrade due to the positive report on Kosovo.

She answers in writing to Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, who recalls that as with negotiations on “the corrections of borders” between Kosovo and Serbia, which presupposed the existence of two states.

“in 2018, at the Alpbach European Forum in Austria, President Vuciq publicly admitted that he had negotiated border corrections between Serbia and Kosovo with former Kosovo president Hashim Thaci. Although border negotiations presuppose the existence of two states (if not, then with whom are you negotiating?), which I challenge, I considered an act of bravery by President Vuciq, not an act of treason”, She writes.

When the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe named it as the Rapporteur for the Council of Ministers' application for the opinion of the Assembly for the Kosovo application, Bakoyannis says the “s were all aware of my special ties with Serbia and the Serbian people”.

“not only because I represent a member state that does not recognise the independence of Kosovo*, but also because of my work on Serbia's European integration”She adds.

She writes that Serbia's “belongs to Europe”, but stresses that “in recent years, the prospect of Serbia's European integration has been removed”.

“at the same time, for all of us who dream of a prosperous European Serbia, ever closer ties with Russia and China, recent incidents of nonliberalism, and repeated cases of antitoric - The EU in political discourse causes great concern”, writes Bakoyannis.

The former Greek diplomat writes that her report “was dedicated only to human rights and the need to bring another 2 million Europeans under the democratic umbrella of KiE”.

The last “is particularly important for the Serb community in the region, which for decades has been denied the right to prosecute Pristina authorities for human rights violations, prior to a internationally recognised trial”, She writes.

Bakoyannis mentioned how it had taken 300 days from the mission in Pristina, Northern Mitrovica, and in Brussels, a team of specialised lawyers and dozens of meetings with governments, ambassadors, Serbian leaders, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, local and international nongovernmental organisations to compile that report.

It also mentions that it has asked the Government of Kosovo to implement the Constitutional Court's decision on land at the Decani Monastery.

No candidate member has ever been asked to undertake so many reforms before bringing about for discussion on his membership in the Organisation. That's probably why 83% of the Parliament voted in pro Report”, writes Bakoyannis.

The Greek MP says the Kosovo “Parliamentary Assembly would not take any position for citizenship”.

In fact, during my speech at the plenary session, I underlined that if I had been forced by the Committee of Ministers to express my opinion on citizenship, I would never have received the Report and lined up with my country's position, denying any consideration for Kosovo's membership in the body”, writes Bakoyannis. “However, the latter was never asked. Recognition or non-recognition of citizenship is and will remain the priore of the states”, She adds.

In spite of that, it says it was attacked by “personally by Serbia's leadership”.

I was named as an insolent traitor who undermines our countries' bilateral relations. Nothing can be further from reality. The public gratitude of my efforts by Father Savva, the Igumen of the Decani Monastery, serves as a modest witness to this. Moreover, it should be mentioned that the country's leadership has not always been this internal”, writes Bakoyannis.

Bakoyannis says Serbia “has no sustainable alternative to the EU and embracing liberal democratic institutions”, if it wants to have a prosperous future.

According to current projections, by 2050, Serbia is expected to lose almost a quarter of its population, as young and capable emigrate in search of work”, she writes, expressing disappointment by “personal attacks”.
