In his address, Prime Minister Rama named Ahmeti one of the best Albanians in our national history.
While assessing Ahmeti's role in the dignified representation of Albanians living in the neighbouring republic, Rama called for unity among Albanians and condemned divisions.
“Today Tirana honours an Albanian among the best of our national history. A story written with extraordinary strains, not only because of great powers, once that Albania was a disturbing geographical expression for them, not only because of the most powerful neighbours, who up until decades ago viewed the Albanian as the unbearable historical avism in the trends of this provincial region between East and West, but also because of the bad Albanian resorts that arms and diplomacy used against one another.
I don't believe that another nation in the Balkans has suffered more than Albanians sharing themselves, and I guess that no one else in this neighbourhood, strife, wars and historical engagements in the middle of Europe has worked more through division. What has made foreigners easier than elsewhere to prevent our national subjectivity from being fashioned stately and publicly affirmed, everywhere Albanians live”, Rama said.
