Their report reportedly has dropped from 1.8 million people to 1.5 million people, according to preliminary data from the Kosovo Statistics Agency.
“Recording is a delicate issue in many Balkan countries, where declining birth rates, mass migration and ethnic tensions reduce efforts to ensure precise population numbers”, the AFP report says.
They have also cited a statement by ASS Director Avni Kastrati delivered before the media today, where he said that according to the first results, Kosovo has over 1.5 million people.
The country had about 2.2 million inhabitants in 2010, but there has been a massive exit to seek work abroad, mainly in the European Union states.
