Ylli Shala, project manager at the Statistics Agency, has announced that the number of non-residents living abroad and that the same have participated in the 2024 population census is about 600 thousand.

However, according to him, this number is expected to increase because the diaspora census process is not yet complete.

He stressed that this process is expected to be completed on August 31st.

We have postponed the census until August 31st because vacations, seasons, but records are only electronic. If I'm not mistaken, there's about 600 thousand registered people in the diaspora that are expected to grow, and during this period that they visit their country, they may ask the AKS, I invite everyone to seize this opportunity to register. They will be mentioned in municipalities that this municipality has that much to be done with residents of residence, and so many residents are not subject to the norm living in various parts of the world. It is expected that the diaspora will have growth compared to 2011, because there have been moves from Kosovo to other countries. The data for residents will be released in July, while for those non-residents in December at the end of”, he said.

Meanwhile, prior to July 15th this year, the exact number of population -- according to the AK -- is expected to be finalised.

The process has been completed, seeing that it is a complex process -- one of the biggest projects in the country -- has required much energy and work in this direction. The process has been successfully completed... as far as data is concerned, will be used by the AKS, no data used on individual bases, all grouped up, no access to individual data, and as far as final results are concerned, the technology we've used in this process has enabled us to come up with preliminary results a little earlier, the first part of July, the exact date is still unknown but before the 15 July date. It's about 1.6 million, it's not the exact number, because we've already started collecting all the equipment from the ground... before July 15th, we're finalising the exact population. Apart from the number, several other indicators are expected for the country, while the final data requires a little longer time and will be worked a little more”, he said.

On the “show round of Round” at RTV Dukaagjini, Shala suggests that although there is likely to be someone left unregistered, however, he adds that intelligence is above 95 percent.

Shala also said that for those families who have refused to register several times, fines will be implemented.

The “is probably someone left unregistered, if coverage is 95 percent considered to be okay with the census, which we've already passed 95 percent, on cases that haven't been recorded, if the recorder has been in their family economy several times and they've refused, those are other cases, we should start with the fines we've planned, while in cases that the family economy has been abroad, those are separate cases that are not included in the census. We found it reasonable that even this week that was postponed for registration, by May 24th, we got some phone calls that aren't many, and our teams went and recorded them, there were about 600 people who called. The number has been too small for citizens who have not registered”, Shala added further.

He said there are no large number of families who have made the census refusal.
