The Kosovo Women's Network (RRGK) has voiced concern about the sentence, as they have called it, the lower provided by the Constitutional Court in Pristina in the event of 11-year-old rape. Pristina's founder on Tuesday has sentenced them to 62 years in prison, six accused of having violated 11 years in Pristina, in June 2022. According to the indictment, one of the indictees has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, while another 5 to 10 years.
The criminal acts for which defendants are being charged under the Kosovo Criminal Code, Article 227, paragraph 7, are punishable by jail for at least 10 years. In this case, the court has pronounced the minimum sentence, which we value as scandalous and unacceptable, especially when dealing with such a case”, says RRGK's response.
The Kosovo Women's Network reportedly expresses deep concern about dealing with cases of violations by justice institutions.
According to them, it is essential that courts understand the weight and impact of these cases in society and take actions seriously and dignity in their treatment.
The minimal sentences pronounced for these works cause concern for women and girls in Kosovo, as they seem to be in favour of perpetrators rather than in the protection of victims. This situation decoupled victims of violence to report their cases and makes it harder to find confidence in the justice system”, it says in response.
