Kosovo police have dated a media communiqué after the last two cases, where two women were killed by their husbands, writes Periscope.
Through this communique, police stressed that suspected persons were arrested in both cases.
Calling for reports of violence, police say in the past year there has been a decline in domestic violence, but this phenomenon still remains disturbing.
Full communication:
Pristina, 16 April 2024
Kosovo police, based on its legal authorisations through strategic development plans and ongoing operational plans, have taken action in preventing various criminal activities, including the undertaking of concrete measures in sensationalisation and preventing cases of domestic violence.
The cases of domestic violence have been and continue to be disturbing, despite the fact that such cases in the past year have marked a decline from 2,757 cases to 2,460 cases, or decline of 10.77% compared to the previous year, which at the beginning of this year continue to remain even more disturbing.
Each time the family violence is reported and reported, there are, of course, many challenges facing many families today, not only in Kosovo, but throughout the world, as domestic violence destroys people's lives, as are the last two cases of Ferizaj's serious murder with the date 12,04,2024 and the case now 16,04,2024 in Pec. In both cases, Kosovo Police have taken concrete action by arresting suspected persons and sending them before competent justice bodies.
Legal actions which fall into the competence of the Kosovo Police have been undertaken every time, including co-operation and co-ordination with relevant institutions such as social work centres, victims' advocates and justice organs. All cases have arrested suspected persons, and cases have been handled according to the guidelines of justice bodies, as has happened with the arrest of two suspected persons who allegedly carried out the killings in Ferizaj and Pec.
Protection from violence is a fundamental human right, so Kosovo Police have consistently made and made efforts to create a safe and secure environment for all. A very important factor in the prevention of domestic violence is the community, including individuals, various organisations and institutions, and the legal system must be united in efforts to ensure an end to any domestic or gender-based violence, including violence and abuse of women and children.
The use of violence is not the form of solving problems, the death of a person in any circumstances is a tragedy for family and community, so Kosovo police continue to call on all people to co-operate with the Kosovo Police, report cases without delay, as this is the right way to solve and prevent cases, as well as bring suspects to justice bodies, to receive the conviction deserved by competent institutions.
