The rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament, Violet von Cremon, said Pristina must meet its obligations from agreements with Belgrade, despite the Serb side's behaviour.
In an interview for A2 CNN, she says the Brussels agreement and the Ohrid annex are good grounds for permanent normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia, but adds that neither side wants to implement it.
“You need political will on both sides, we're not babysitters, we're facilitators and in the end you need mature political figures that would like to move on. If both sides benefit most from failing to implement the agreements, it is very difficult to do something in Brussels. From what I've seen from Brussels from our mediator, Mirsolav Lajcak, from what I've seen from member states, there was a lot of attention, too much push, many visits, Americans also helped a lot, but nothing worked”, the Kosovo rapporteur said in the EP.
Von Croamon agrees that Serbia could have been treated differently for its behaviour, but adds that this does not undo the most important obligation for Kosovo, the one for establishing the Association of Serb majority municipalities.
“Foh there is, let's say failure, for the way Serbia was treated, I agree with this that it caressed but yet obligations are also for Kosovo, so that as much as Serbia has violated the agreement, it has not implemented, yet Kosovo must do its part. Many people in this country think it is fully unilateral, I would say yes and not at the same time, but association should be created no matter what Serbia” will do on the other hand, she stressed.
Von Croamon refused to comment on former Slovenian President Borut Pahor's candidacy to replace Lajcak as the EU's emissary for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
