Tomorrow's Bislimi-Petkovic meeting for the dinar: VV accuses past governments, analysts say government is causing damage to the country

The two chief negotiators Besnik Bislimi and Petar Petkoviq have agreed to meet again this Thursday to find a solution to the dinar issue. Despite their recent meeting, Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue Mediator Miroslav Lajcak voiced optimism that after two days there is expected to be an agreement between the parties [...]

The use of the dinar for cash payments in Kosovo was banned on 1 February, when the Kosovo Central Bank introduced a new regulation, which defined the euro as the only official currency in the country.

This issue angered Serbia and sparked differences even between the Government of Kosovo and the international community, after the Serb community in Kosovo for years receives payment in dinars from Serbia's budget.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia James O'Brien has said that the US may not treat Kosovo as a partner if it makes decisions without consulting him, while American Ambassador to Pristina Jeff Houvenier has stressed that the dinar issue has only affected the quality of relations between the US and the Government of Kosovo.

To that end, US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier, who has reiterated the stance that reports between the US and Kosovo have fluctuated following the Central Bank's decision on the Serbian dinar. Ambassador Havenier said the US cannot consider the Government led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti as partner if the latter does not respond to American concerns.

How do analysts in Kosovo assess the issue?

Analyst Halil Matoshi in a statement to Periscope Kosovo government must make moves for a quick solution to dinar issue.

Kosovo's “government is running out of time, it needs a quick move towards a solution for the Serbian Dinari, as well as at least one step forward for association, in exchange for membership in the Council of Europe”, Matoshi told Periscopi.

Analyst Visar Ymer has said the dinar issue has restored focus and rebuke to the Government of Kosovo, while, according to him, pressure should be in Belgrade.

On the show “Debat Plus”, Ymer has stressed that this issue made in Brussels has caused Kosovo harm.

And I generally think that besides the damage that this has become a topic in Brussels, there is this behavior of the Government that is causing delays and then we're losing the opportunity because of the behavior and approach of the internationals that brings me something more positive even when there's an internationally interested ear to hear our position. The Kosovo government last year has taken certain actions that have not been welcomed by the International Community, and all these have been diplomaticly recovered with Serbia's attack on Banjska, and Serbia's attack on Banjska has turned sympathy towards Kosovo and the judgment on Serbia, has the judgment been made that we loved? No. Is the judgment that Escobar mentioned similar? Yes”, says Ymer.

He argued there should be more pressure on President Alexander Vuciq on the part of the International Community.

“This position that has placed Vucinqiqit very difficult internationally because of its interconnection with the attack on Banjsk and then due to the manipulation of the elections inside, all this criticism has been mishandled and ill-used by the Government of Kosovo, because the dinar issue has turned the focus, rebuke, pressure on the Republic of Kosovo, while it has had to be in Belgrade...”, he added.

While the Vetevendosje Movement has continued to accuse past governments of the issue.

In a statement to Periscope, VV deputy Halil Thaci said the CEC's decision should be implemented much earlier, But according to him, past governments were not impressed by this part.

The BQ's decision on the dinar was supposed to be implemented a long time ago, but as it turns out past governments were not impressed by the dinar or sovereignty in a part of the Republic of Kosovo, they were given enough comfort at their offices in the capital.Said Thaci for Periscope.
