Sylejman Selimi and Jarhir Demak have been acquitted today of war crimes charges. This was disclosed during a session held Thursday at the Constitutional Court in Pristina.
Selimi and Demak have been released without evidence.
The Judicial Chamber, when reading the verdict, said they have managed to confirm the prosecution's claims and, in the absence of evidence, has freed them from the indictment.
News of the Telegraph confirmed by the Constitutional Court.
The alleged “have been acquitted of the prosecution after it has not been confirmed by the tribunal that they have committed the same criminal work for which they were charged by the PSRK”, said Mirlinda Gashi, spokesman of the Constitutional Court.
The special prosecutor had filed charges against the 15 defendants, but with the verdict the indictment was divided on two counts -- “Drenica 150 -- including Selimi and Deraku and “Drenica 2”.
They were accused of claiming the Special Prosecutor how members of the KLA had committed war crimes against the civilian population by violating the body integrity and the health of an unidentified person from the Shipol neighbourhood of Mitrovica.
Sylejman Selimi was sentenced in the case “Drenica 2” by the Mitrovica Court in 27.05.2015 to 8 years in prison. Apel had softened the sentence in seven years. In the case of “Drenica 1”, however, was sentenced to 6 years and the case has turned into retrial and is being tried at the Pristina Court.
