Former Slovenia President Borut Pahor is aiming to assume the post of special European Union envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia after the mandate ends Miroslav Lajcak in late August, the Slovenian newspaper reports, DeloI'll follow the Express.

Pahor founded the private Balkan Friends Institute last December, when he lost a year's status as former president of the Republic. The institute's mission is to integrate the countries of the region into the EU, promote dialogue, reconciliation and economic development.

However, Delo writes that they have unofficially learned that Pahor, with the assistance of the European Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Europe, led by his former associate, Tanja Fajon, is preparing to progress to the post of special European Union envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimated that Pahor is an appropriate candidate to occupy an important and prestigious position in the Western Balkans, which is considered a strategic area of Slovenia, so they decided that the Slovenian diplomatic network would help the former Slovenian president on his candidacy. The paper writes that unofficial estimates are that Pahor is an appropriate candidate that meets the conditions for the position.

Here, it should be noted that for the position of the European Union's special envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Pahor must submit a personal request according to information from the Slovenian newspaper, he has not yet done so in the European Foreign Action Service, which is headed by Spanish socialist Josep Borrell. Miroslav Lajcak's mandate expires in late August.

At the moment, the lobby process for Pahor to assume the post of special envoy is at a significant stage.

Part of the lobby for Pahor also carried out the advisory committee of the Friends of the Western Balkans Institute. It includes, among other things, former EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, former Swedish Prime Minister and former UN High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Carl Bildt, former Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, former Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga and former Serbian president Boris Tadic.
