Kosovo's “Police and the Agency for Information and Privateness report to the public for establishing camera surveillance system in municipalities in the northern part of Kosovo, which is held within the framework of close inter-institutional co-operation. This activity is done in consultation between the two institutions in exercising their legal mandate. Based on Law No. 04/ L-076 for the Police, Kosovo Police are authorised to do pre-emptive public site surveys, using video-acstatic recordings and photo equipment to monitor public sites where, in the past, criminal acts have often been conducted, or where there are grounds to be believed that public surveillance would reduce the risk of committing criminal acts and improve public safety in the future, in line with the Penal Procedure Code”, the report says.
Police said any action to establish the camera surveillance system was carried out in the presence of AIP inspectors.
“Through this initiative, Kosovo Police and the Agency for Information and Privateity stress their commitment to protect and improve public safety, fully respecting the legal framework regulating the protection of personal data and citizens' rights”, it is said.
