German delegation to the Council of Europe Chairman Frank Schwabe has said that from the current point of view, Kosovo's chances of becoming a member of the Council of Europe are 50/50.
He has said that reaching the majority at the Parliamentary Assembly has been a very significant step, yet there is much work to be done.
From today's perspective, the odds are 50/50 percent. The significant step we reached with the majority at the Parliamentary Assembly has certainly impressed governments, ministers, and commissions. But there's still much to do about it”, Social Democrat politician told DW.
Even more skeptical is Gerald Knaus, chairman of the European Initiative for Stability, (ESI). Knaus has said Serbia's president, Alexander Vuciq, is campaigning successfully to postpone Kosovo's membership vote.
“We note that Serbia's president is campaigning successfully to convince key states in Europe to postpone the vote for Kosovo's accession at the moment, it seems that President Vucic will win this battle”, Knaus has said of the DW.
