MPs from Romania, Iulian Bulai, considered today's historic at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where the report recommending Kosovo's membership in this important organisation is under consideration.
Although it comes from the country that recognises Kosovo's independence, he said he hopes the decision will be in favour of membership of the newest Balkan state in the KiE.
This is a historic day from a liberal standpoint. We protect individual rights, not states, not ethnic rights. Today's decision means more rights to 1.6 million people who have experienced war, whose wounds are still recovering, and are obliged to build the future together”, Bulai said.
Today's “Decision is the beginning and we expect Kosovo to meet all agreed reforms and its international commitments. Kosovo is ready and deserves to enter the Council of Europe”, he added.
Referring to the Association of Serb majority municipalities, he said that a second Republika Srpska should be established in Kosovo.
“We do not want to take the wrong path of creating a second Republika Srpska in Kosovo, but neither should we ignore the real needs of the Serb minority that should be respected and should be involved in Kosovo”, Bulai said.
