The European Union's special envoy for the Kosovo dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has again called on Kosovo and Serbia to implement the Brussels Agreement and the Ohrid annex.
Lajcak said at the “forum The EU meets the Balkans” in Sofia that this agreement can be broken.
The Agreement is there and cannot be undone. If there had been better deals, or if there had been better delivery, someone would have proposed. It's not like that. We need to focus on implementing this deal”, Lajcak said.
The Slovak diplomat spoke of the need to create a suitable atmosphere for normalisation of relations. For that, he said it should be necessary for the “region to believe it is time for EU enlargement”.
The moment our partners realise that progress in normalisation leads to progress on their way to the EU, then we will see great progress”, Lajcak said.
Lajcak said that <x0pa is not ready for normalisation”, and that he has hoped that the “by today most points will be implemented”.
“Normising relations between Kosovo and Serbia is a very sensitive issue. I don't think the parties are ready for this, I don't believe the societies are ready for this”, Lajcak said.
Whenever there is progress, the two leaders, Albin Kurti and Aleksandar Vuciq, are sharply criticised by the opposition. In reality, though, they should be commended for making progress towards normalisation, as it is good for citizens. Clearly, you cannot make progress towards normalisation when you have a field crisis”, Lajcak said away.
He said the process of normalisation Kosovo-Serbia is the most strategic “process in the Western Balkans”, which has influence throughout the region.
