Kuci: Kosovo Constitution Building State Basement

The former chairman of the Commission for Building the Constitution of Kosovo, Hajredin Kuci, told RTK that the Constitution of Kosovo has reflected the will of Kosovo's citizens for sovereign and independent states to preserve territorial integrity, but also the obligations Kosovo has received at the time in talks in Vienna.

Kuci suggested that over 100 other constitutions have been taken in its drafting.

“We have been careful to make comparisons, we have received over 100 constitutions from other countries that we have compared from preambles to the final and transitional provisions”, he said.

Otherwise, Kosovo's Constitution was ratified on April 9th 2008 and took effect on June 15th of the same year. As the highest judicial act in the country, Kosovo's Constitution guarantees the fundamental rights and freedoms of all citizens of the country.

Through its Constitution, Kosovo has been defined as an independent and sovereign state, with a democratic system of governance and respect for human rights and freedoms as the fundamental values of society. Kosovo's constitution also protects and promotes the country's cultural and linguistic diversity and provides a safe and peaceful environment for all its citizens.

Kosovo's constitution, which largely stems from the Ahtisaari package, gave specific rights to minorities living in Kosovo.

16 years after adopting the constitution, Kosovo continues to face challenges, but has managed to promote its constitutional values by building a free, democratic and open society for all its citizens.

For these years the Kosovo Constitution was amended several times.
