Germany conditioned Kosovo membership with Association, Silent Kurti, take no stance

Prime Minister Albin Kurti has declined to comment on Germany's public position that Kosovo should start work on establishing association in order to join the Council of Europe. Kurti has avoided journalists' questions on the issue. Until his party officials believe Council membership is a matter carried out, but otherwise think in the opposition tray.

Cuffed up has been Prime Minister Albin Kurti's agenda on Tuesday, a day after the important call he had with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

But, the government's chief declined to declare about clarification, now public, of the German position that the launch of procedures for establishing association before the final vote for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe is needed.

After the call between Scholzi and Kurti, the German Chancellor's cabinet said he stressed to Kosovo prime minister the importance of concrete steps towards Association for CoE membership.

But, Arber Rexhaj, who is MP from Kurti's party, says Kosovo cannot start establishing association because according to him, the problem lies with Serbia, which is constantly violating the basic agreement.

The European Council for Kosovo membership process has ended, Kosovo has already joined. Why am I saying that? Because when you pass the National Assembly, a meeting of the Committee of Ministers may not be called, but in 100 percent of the time, the Committee of Ministers has decided the same as the National Assembly has decided. However, quite another opinion is held by LDK deputy Rzazarta Krasniqi.

It says it is already clear the conditioning of KiE membership with Association.

“Starting with the past where you know how many times the visa liberalisation process has been passed in the European Parliament and it doesn't get past the Council, it will have to be disturbing for them, it has to work harder. We saw the two friendly states of Kosovo that are referring to Prime Minister Kurti sending the draft Association to Constitution, it is now seen as a condition of association”, Krasniqi has said.

International pressure on association has increased to Kosovo just prior to the gathering of the CoE Committee of Ministers, which is held in mid-May.

Similar stays like Germany have also shown France.

However, the Government's steps by then have been praised as determining whether to introduce Kosovo's application in order this year. /Dukagini/
