The group of industrialized countries (G7) must definitely respond to Iran's attack on Israel, Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Bayerbox said on Thursday.
Backock stressed that she and her counterparts are negotiating possible measures against Iran during a meeting in Italy.
“We are talking about additional measures here at the G7, because, of course, there must be answers to this unprecedented” incident, Baerbox said.
However, she added, the “should not necessarily have to scale further into the region; which would be fatal to its population”.
G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Great Britain and the United States.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned on Thursday that escalation of tensions as a result of the war on the Gaza Strip and Iran's attack on Israel could lead to a “general regional conflict”.
Guterres said Israel's Gaza war has created a “humaniac hellspace” for people trapped there.
He said miscalculations or proper non-communication “could lead to full and unimaginable regional conflict”.
Iran said it carried out the April 13th attack against Israel in retaliation for the alleged Israeli attack on an Iranian consulate in Syria on 1 April.
Israel has pledged to respond to Iran's attack without telling how and when.
Iran has said it names this issue closed, but has warned that, in case of revenge “is even the smallest” on Iranian territory, its response would be “extraordinary and harsh”. /rel
