CEC confirms initiative to evacuate mayors to the north has failed

At the media conference, Central Election Commission Chairman Kreshnik Radoniqi indicated that based on data accepted by the Municipal Election Commissions, in the four northern municipalities Leposaviq, Zubin Potok, Zvecan and North Mitrovica, stating that the initiative for the departure of mayors in the north has failed because they have not voted as many citizens as the law requires.

The number of citizens who have voted in the voting process for or against the mayors' departure from their post is as follows: in the Leposaviqi municipality, 124 voters have voted in Zubin Potok municipality have voted 18 voters, in the municipality of Zvecan no voters have voted, 111 voters have voted in the Northern Mitrovica municipality. Backing from voter exit data in the process, we are informing you that the majority of registered voters as required in the law for local self-government have not voted, so we find that the initiative for the departure of mayors in the north has failed”, Radoniqi has said.

He has added that the CEC is fully engaged in this process.

Votes in the north were held after the Central Election Commission verified citizens' signatures on petitions collected by mid-January.
