The first-instance court in Podgorica sentenced Gjokaj to 40 years in prison for serious murder, four years for attempted murder and wounding Shaban Bakija and one year in detention for illegal weapons.
After that, the court imposed a unified sentence of 40 years in prison.
The first degree Act was proclaimed by the council's chairman, Judge Veljko Radovanovic, writes today Vijesti. He in explaining the act said that Gjokaj has killed Shajla Bakija for poor and selfish motives.
Srdjan Leskovic, Gjonaj's defence lawyer, told reporters after the court announced today's ruling, that the trial has come under pressure and that courts make such decisions easily. He stressed that no defence evidence has been presented in this procedure.
He added that the court dismissed all defence evidence.
“Of course the defence will file complaints, much more that any requests for submitting evidence have been rejected. I believe the evidence we've proposed, if we'd submitted, the act would probably be different”, Leshkovic concluded.
Lawyer Tijana Zivovic, representative of the victim's family, told reporters that the indictment is a kind of satisciation for the family. She believes the bias is based on evidence. /Paparacy. com
