The State Election Commission (KSHZ) in Northern Macedonia announced that by 1: 00 p.m., 26.35 per cent of the 1.8 million eligible citizens have voted, while it is also known that despite some minor technical barriers in several locations, the seventh cycle of presidential elections in general is taking place without serious trouble.
This percentage comes after processing data from 3420 seats from 3480 total. K The S.Z. announced earlier that by 11:00 p.m. the vote in the entire country's territory was exploited by 12.78 percent of citizens, while no irregularities were reported during that time. This process started at 7: 00 p.m. and will last until 7:00 p.m.
In the presidential race, besides the current president, Stevo Pendarovski, who was nominated by the coalition for “The European Future”, which is led by the Social Democrat League (LSDM), are also two Albanians. From the “European Front” under the direction of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) Garon Bujar Osmani, current minister of foreign affairs of the ARMV.
And Albanian opposition party coalition “VLEN”, composed of the Besa Movement, Democratic Movement and Alternatives, is led by Arben Taravari, the current mayor of the Gostivar municipality, and the candidate who was supported by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who actually caused a wave of inter-Albanian controversy and clashes in Pristina and Skopje.
However, the main race is expected to be among the Macedonian candidates. Since in the first round it is almost impossible to elect the president because the law stipulates that a candidate/a candidate should get over half of the votes of citizens registered on the election list or half of the votes of over 1.8 million voters, a second round is expected to be organised.
In the second round, the two most voted candidates pass, while the winner elects the candidate who wins over 50 percent of the vote. The second round is expected to be held on May 8th, the day parliamentary elections are held. For this reason, presidential elections are estimated to be very important because they are expected to determine the mood of citizens even in central elections.
