War a real threat, and Europe is not ready, warns Poland's prime minister

Poland's prime minister, Donald Tusk, has openly declared that Europe has entered a <x0-edge pre-war” and, according to him, if Ukraine is defeated by Russia, no one in Europe will be able to feel secure.

I don't want to scare anybody, but war is no longer a concept from the past” -- he told European media. “It's real and it started more than two years ago”- added away from Tusk, reports British media BBC.

These comments he made after Russia has intensified bombing Ukraine in recent weeks.

Ukraine's Air Force said they had down 58 fears and 26 rockets.

Tusk, former president of the European Council, said Russian President Vladimir Putin had already blamed Ukraine for the jihadist attack on Moscow's Crocus Basin without any evidence, and “seems to feel the need to justify increasingly violent attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine”.

In his first foreign interview since returning to office as Polish prime minister at the end of 2023, Tusk urged Europe's leaders to do more to strengthen defence.

Whether Joe Biden or Donald Trump wins the November US presidential elections, he argued Europe would become a more attractive partner for the US if it became more self-sufficient militarily.

Since Russia started the war in Ukraine, relations with the West have reached the lowest point since the worst days of the Cold War, though President Putin said this week that Moscow had no “non-aggressive goals to NATO countries.

This is not the first time Tusk has warned from a pre-war era, a similar message was delivered at the beginning of this month, where he stressed that Spain's prime minister, Pedro Sanchez, had asked European leaders not to use the teminial subject in their speeches at summits because people do not want to feel threatened. Tusk had replied that “in this part of Europe, war was no longer an abstract idea”.

“We are living at the most critical moment since the end of World War II” -- even some media had given statements that “each scenario is possible”.

Ukraine, facing war launched by Russia in 2022, called on its Western allies to send F-16s in order to confront Russian invading forces. / BBC
