SHKK Director: During 2023 we prevented 60 cases of smuggling in prisons, there were also officials involved

From the Kosovo Correcting Service, they have told EO that there has been double smuggling prevention cases during 2023.

Kosovo Corresponding Service Director Ismail Dibran tells the Online Economy that the largest amount of narcotics smuggling has been half a kilo, while 60 cases of smuggling have been prevented over the past year.

He says smuggling is assisted by suppliers of inmates' family.

We have only managed to prevent cases of smuggling through family but also through convicts. Unfortunately, there are cases where even through various companies that supply our institutions have attempted to smuggle, but in this respect we have advanced with technological equipment, but in this direction, there has also been a great deal of help for us to strengthen the intelligence unit that functions within the correct service that we've achieved through the information we've received from this entity to prevent the large number of cases, of course, in prisons and forms and methods for the introduction of smuggling are numerous and cannot be eliminated under any circumstances. There are times over the years when up to half a kilo”, he says.

And those called to prevent smuggling often get involved in criminal activities. The director of the SKK says there are cases when corrective service officials have been caught attempting to smuggle.

Unfortunately, we have the following case, but the smaller number is that our officials have attempted to smuggle, but that unfortunately they have been completed except that they have lost their jobs even when they were arrested and convicted, and there are cases when they continue to hold the sentence”, Debrani says.

Although they do not have accurate statistics on the number of inmates in prisons and correctional centers, Debran says that their numbers do not exceed more than 1800 prisoners.

We don't have clear statistics for age, but mostly they're all, thankfully Kosovo is a place where statistics for minors and women are best. Condemned ones do not exceed 20 for minors or women. The current situation we're talking about today is 1600 people held in the Correcting Institute. 1100 are convicted and 500 detained. These numbers vary but do not exceed the number 1700 or 1800”, Debrani says.

The perpetrators of the works, Debrani says, are not recivilists, excluding some for theft. For other more serious cases, he says there is none.

And so in this respect we stay well, there's no exact figure of what the number of recivils is because it has to be researched over the years, but even in this respect, we do well to rule out cases of theft, we don't have other acts that are acidistic.
