Former Secretary of NATO, Lord George Robertson, at a session held at the British Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, where developments in Kosovo and Serbia, including the attack on Banjska, were discussed, has said that with Serbia it should be harsh.
“To be tough with Serbia pays off. People in this part of the world respect force. ”
The conversation included vocal MP Alica Kearns, saying:
“cannot think of an example where in the last four years we have shown strength to Serbia”, she said.
This is what we need to do, the powerful message you can get is that we need to be strong. We can be flexible, we can be connected, we need to engage specifically with the Serbian opposition, to be absolutely harsh”, Robertson added.
This session was held today and in the announcement to say that the Western Balkans region has seen an increase in nationalism, foreign intervention, corruption and press restrictions”.
It was meant to talk about the recent Serbian elections, and their impact on Aleksandar Vuciqi's nationalist agenda. Lord Robertson was Secretary General NATO during the time of shelling on Serbian targets in 1999.
