The Kosovo Energy Corporation has confirmed the demand it has submitted to raise the price of selling electricity, giving even arguments about why this should happen, but stressing that they have not received any answers to this demand. Skender Bucolli from the KEK public relations office has [...]
Skender Bucolli from the KEK public relations office has told Kosovo Press that he has submitted the request for price review, but that there is no information that the price increase has been approved on their request.
“KED has been linked in 2023 to April 01rd 2023 through March 31st 2024, under this current price agreement KEK supplies to the universal service is 29.5m, while the price for the distribution loss coverage is 36.00. In this regard, KEK has submitted price review request to KESCO/ KEDS, the KEK's proposal for new prices, has been 31.50m for KESCO and 39.10m for KEDS. However, KEK has no information that the price increase was approved on our request, for more during Z. THREE basic for calculating revenues for KESCO/ KEDS has received the current price at which they supply”, he has said in a response to Kosovas.
Bucolli said electricity prices from KEK have undergone no changes since 2019, and that the reasons for it were initially pandemics and then energy crises.
“Although KEK electricity prices have not undergone changes, however the COST Market/Operation and System Operation tariffs have undergone constant growth and this represents direct costs for KEK. Based on the fact that KEK's direct costs have steadily increased, but other costs have also increased markedly compared to the previous years, and the country has faced an inflation of about 5.4% during 2023. Furthermore, the primary goal of revising electricity prices is to cover all costs, and on the other hand providing enough means to make necessary capital investments necessary, which will affect the stability of the generation units, then not reflecting the KEK proposal could cause delays in realising capital investments, but also the possibility of losing”, Bucolli stressed.
Otherwise, the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE) has confirmed for Kosovas that there will be no electricity price increase. In a written reply, they say that in a 2024 high cost assessment, Z The RRE has taken into consideration the current prices, since, as “says, no further evidence has been accepted from the parties that subject themselves to the overhaul for reviewing the price of energy purchases from KEK, so there will be no change of prices”.
