On January 1st of this year, Kosovars travel visa-free to Europe.
And this has also increased the citizens' interest in obtaining passports.
To get such a document, citizens have been waiting for weeks.
From the Ministry of Internal Affairs say they are working on weekends to reduce expectations.
“to accelerate the process of passport equipment, we have taken measures to improve our rage. Currently, we also work on weekends with the aim of reducing the wait. Due to visa liberalisation and the large number of applications in the past two months, the wait is slightly more than a month. However, in the event of a technical problem, waiting could be postponed”, so said the MPB response.
Citizens have the opportunity to apply for their passport even with accelerated procedure.
However, this form of application costs up to 80 euros.
And according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Front Online, they have suggested that 24 thousand citizens by Thursday are equipped with passports in this form.
“also, expectations for children's passports are being reduced by maintaining measures taken to improve service. From early January 2024 to yesterday (27.3,2024), about 24 thousand people have been equipped with a passport through accelerated procedure”, the MPB's response given to the Online Front says.
According to the latest data, by January of this year, the number of Kosovo passport applications is 144 thousand and 225.
Visa liberalisation enables Kosovo citizens, who have biometric passports, to stay up to 90 days within six months, in any of the 27 members of the Schengen area.
Otherwise, visa - free travel serves for tourist visits, family issues, or similar ones. However, visa liberalisation does not imply work permits or other benefits.
