The ambassador of the United States of America to Kosovo, Jeffrey Havenier, has said prosecutors' work is vital to the justice system, society in general, but also Kosovo's future.
Speaking at the State Prosecutor's annual conference, Havenier cited criticism of their work against prosecutors, including from the Government, where he said he is convinced that for prosecutors he is a fugitive and even offensive to face criticism of their work.
Therefore, although you may be viewed as powerful figures in Kosovo's criminal justice system, it is expected to be criticized for your work, especially those who are not familiar with procedures, legal practices, which are designed to ensure equal treatment by law, testimony and other legal standards. I'm convinced that it's frustrating, sometimes it's offensive to face criticism because of the work you do, you do well, not only by the public, but also by other government branch leaders, who also have the responsibility to protect the rule of law in Kosovo and good governance”, said Havener.
Hüvenier said prosecutors' work is not easy.
“E knows a prosecutor's work is not easy. Everyone has their own thoughts about what you're doing, and most of them little understand what the law requires, the procedures and almost everyone has a thought of what a case should look like and it would have to be done, but you have to stick to the rules, the process, the regulations and that doesn't always happen as the public or someone from the government wants. ”
He called on prosecutors to maintain independence and continue the mandate with professionalism and integrity.
“
At the end of the word, Hovenier also cited the matter of chief state prosecutor, where he said the KKP should take the necessary steps to act in line with good governance standards and return the public and international partners to the KKP as a public institution.
I think that two years ago, I was on this podium, at this conference, and I asked the Prosecutorial Council to ensure a fair, transparent, merity process for selecting the next head of state. I will make the same request and regret that I am doing it two years later, but my government believes that the KKP should take the necessary steps to act in line with good governance standards and return public and international partners to the KKP as a public institution. I don't think I need to say more about this, but I encourage you to work hard to create a culture of accountability and professionalism in every office of yours”, the American ambassador declared.
