Russian forces have guaranteed the eastern Ukrainian town of Harkiwi, killing one person and wounding 16 others, the town's mayor, Ior Terekhov, said, while Ukraine's Foreign Ministry once again called on Washington for more air defence systems.
On March 27, at least two civilians were killed in Russian attacks in eastern and southern Ukraine.
The attack on Harkiv targeted a residential building, Terekhov wrote in Telegram, describing the attack as a “another act of bloody terror against Ukrainians”.
Harkiwi Governor Oleh Synyehubov said two attacks took place in a town district of Harkiwi, reporting damage to civilian infrastructure.
A five-story building suffered major damage, as did the Emergency Institute, he said.
In recent weeks, Russians have intensified air strikes against Ukraine by targeting key infrastructure, including electric stations, in retaliation for bombings in Russian border regions.
During an online conference on March 27th, Ukrainian Chief Diplomat Dmytro Kuleba called for urgent shipments of air defence systems.
“Vecmas, the current Russian attacks are intense and ballistic missiles are being used that can reach limits at extremely high speed, giving people little time to take refuge, and causing great damage”, he said.
“Patriot and similar systems are crucial. They are designed to protect lives, not to take a life of”, he said, referring to American production missiles.
Earlier in the week, during an interview with Politico, Kuleba said Ukraine needs these land-air missiles to protect itself from the ongoing Russian attacks, as the invasion of Ukraine by Russia has already entered its third year. / REL
