A private headquarters organisation in London of Great Britain warned on Thursday of escalation of Kosovo-Serbia tensions in the next six months, including neighbouring countries in the region, especially if the Kosovo government does not shift from its stance to prevent the Serbian dinar used mainly in northern municipalities in the country.
The “Ethnic tensions between Kosovars and Serbs are likely to increase in Kosovo over the next six months as the government implements the decision to ban the dinar. The clash between Serbia and Kosovo is likely to exacerbate regional tensions in the next six months, while neighbouring countries line up with one or the other”, British organisation warned.
Also, in the organisation's analysis “Grey Dinamics” on the tense flow of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is considered likely to have the European Union (BE) and the United States (SHBA) intervene over the next six months in an effort to stabilise the region due to increased tensions between Pristina and Belgrade.
“In this direction, neither side has lowered tensions, causing concern in Europe. Evidently, given European and American attention to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, the security situation in the region is threatened to escalate”.
This hot atmosphere in relations between the two countries has already become the norm, and is expected to continue through 2024. A recent decision by the Kosovo Central Bank (BQK), through which the circulation of the Serbian dinar on Kosovo territory is intended to stop, laid new layers on the tense flow of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
Also in an article in the German newspaper “Welt” dedicated to tensions in the Western Balkans, it was said that fears of renewed conflicts in this region surrounded by ethnic hostilities are increasing in Western Chancellors, especially after the attack by Serb paramilitaries in northern Kosovo and the Secesionist threats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the vortex of these developments, for many foreign observers, the prospect of slipping towards the edge of the crisis cannot be isolated; until the possibility is given to local Serb players associated with Russian interests to expand the threatening shadow and provoke conflicts, now the risk of re-trading lies above the entire Western Balkans, plagued by tensions. /Albanianpost
