The court said it would give the United States three weeks to provide guarantees that Assange would not be tried in court because of his nationality, that he would be offered the same protection of the First Amendment as American citizens and that he would not be subjected to the death penalty.
The 52-year-old is struggling with extradition for more than a decade. Assange has spent seven years in exile at the Ecuador Embassy in London and nearly five years in Belmarsh, a high security prison on the outskirts of the U.K. capital.
He is wanted in the US on 18 counts, including 17 according to the Spyage Act and one according to the Deception and Revenge Act. He has also been sentenced to 175 years in prison after Wikipedia published hundreds of thousands of confidential military files and diplomatic documents related to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Recall that Assange did not participate in a two-day hearing in February at the London Supreme Court due to his health problems.
