Brad Osman: If the vote is ethnic, Albanians do not participate

Under the fever of presidential elections in northern Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, the Albanian candidate who competes under the DUI signal, shows his ambition to sit in the chair of the head of state. Although in the race it is not the only Albanian, he is of the opinion that the post of president should not be the exclusiveness of Macedonians. [...]
Although in the race it is not the only Albanian, he is of the opinion that the post of president should not be the exclusiveness of Macedonians.
It is time for Albanians to get the first Albanian president and break the last taboo of ethnic monopolies in the state. If and this time again it will only be voted on ethnic grounds then there really is no reason why Albanians should participate in electoral processes to make election alibis, which are exclusive“, Osmani told Top Channel.
Whatever the outcome of the elections, the formula for how to proceed towards an Albanian President for Bujar Osman is clear: His election through Parliament.
The “actually has time, years that we say the election process is one-sided, is monoethnic, is exclusive and Albanians are not crucial. I think there is a serious chance, with this candidacy given the opportunity to elect the first Albanian president in direct elections, if not, then the only possibility is to make constitutional changes and the president be elected in Parliament”.
And to realise this goal, Osmani says changing the formula for electing the head of state is also one of DUI's conditions for post-election alliances, even with the LSDM, the political force which seeks to grant another mandate to incumbent President Stevo Pendarovski.
The future of the coalition will depend on election results. The DUI has introduced its red lines, there are three pillars agreements of Northern Macedonia, Ohrid, Prespa and good neighbourhood, and of course the president's election to Parliament”.
In parallel with the presidential race, northern Macedonia is preparing for parliamentary battle, paving the way for the formation of new government, while by election day, interim executive will be led by Albanian Talat Xhaferi
