US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged Kosovo and Serbia to implement all agreements reached in the dialogue mediated by the European Union.
He said the dialogue process in Brussels, supported by the United States, is the only mechanism for Kosovo and Serbia to normalise reports.
During a media conference in Vienna, together with Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg, the American top diplomat said that people in the Western Balkan region do not need to go back but move forward and integrate into the European Union.
“We are also working together [with Austria] to improve reports between Kosovo and Serbia. EU-brokered dialogue is the only applicable mechanism, the only way forward. We should see confidence efforts and constructive efforts by both sides -- from Kosovo and Serbia -- to stabilise their reports and move towards this road. Tʹi maintain low-level tensions, increase co-ordination, increase transparency with international partners and implement all pledges of dialogue”, Blinken said.
The US and the European Union constantly call on Kosovo and Serbia to engage in the Brussels dialogue and implement all agreements reached so far.
Last year, the parties reached the agreement on the road to normalising the reports. This agreement, of 11 provisions, envisions a level of self-awareness for the Serb community in Kosovo and mutual recognition of state symbols, while demanding from Pristina and Belgrade to implement, as well, all previous agreements reached during dialogue.
The EU has said the parties have not yet started to implement the agreement.
The international factor insists dialogue is the platform to resolve all open issues between Kosovo and Serbia, while tensions between them have been high.
Tensions are increasing since May of last year, when Serbs rejected young Albanian mayors in four municipalities in northern Kosovo, inhabited by Serb majority. Tensions deteriorated even more after 24 September, a terrorist group attacked Kosovo police in Zvecan Banjska, killing a sergeant. /Radio Free Europe
