Joe Biden said yesterday he hopes to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the militant group Hamas until the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
Asked if he expected an agreement by then, the American president said that “I hope so. We're still working hard on”.
The 81-year-old statement comes amid tense ceasefire talks as pressure mounts on it to help ease the conflict.
The proposed agreement requires a 40-day pause of all military operations since the beginning of Ramadan, as well as an increase in the flow of aid in Gaza, a source close to negotiations for the Reuters news agency said.
It is reported that this will also include a deal releasing an Israeli hostage to ten Palestinian prisoners.
The holy Muslim month, during which believers fast from dawn to sunset, will begin on March 10 or 11. The exact beginning of Ramadan is determined by the first glimpse of the pre-plight, so it can change from country to country.
