Serbia's Defence Minister Milos Vuchev said today that after 13 years of suspension of mandatory military service, arguments have been presented for public discussion to abolish that suspension, but that does not mean “preparation for war”.
Vuchevic told about RTS that “the return of military service has nothing to do with problems in Kosovo”.
He said that each year the Serbian Army loses about 600,000 soldiers from the reserve, due to age, and at the same time each year accepts or registers about 1500 new professional members.
He stressed that if mandatory military service returns, the Serbian Armed Forces would also maintain their professional framework.
