Donald Trump has asked the U.S. Supreme Court on 12 February to suspend a court ruling that rejected his claim that he has immunity from prosecution in the court case, where he is accused of attempting to overturn defeat in the 2020 elections. He has argued that without such a shield, <x0 expectations, as we know, will no longer exist”.
Trump, aimed at winning the November American presidential election, has asked judges to pause the February 6th ruling, which was taken by a panel of judges from the Supreme Court of Columbus County. The three-judge panel rejected Trump's claim that he has immunity from legal persecution.
Trump's lawyers, in demand handed down to the Supreme Court, said that “maintaining the criminal trial for months against President Trump in the middle of an election season would drastically undermine Trump's ability to campaign” against President Joe Biden for the November elections.
Lawyers demanded that judges suspend judicial procedures, since they are demanding that this case be reviewed by a court in Washington County and, if necessary, then appealed to the Supreme Court.
In a federal court in Washington, it was meant to begin trial against Trump on 4 March, on charges of overturning the result. The start date of the trial has been postponed and a new date has not been set.
Trump, who faces four criminal charges, is the first former American president to be prosecuted. He is considered the main candidate to win the republican nomination to challenge the Benen Democrat in the November elections.
