European Union spokesman Peter Stano has said Kosovo's recent actions have raised the European Union's (EU) concerns.
“over the past week we have seen at least two examples of shares that have raised EU concerns. One was the BQ's regulation, and the other was the police operation on several entities controlled by Serbia in northern Kosovo. These steps are disturbing because they do not undo the failure of the situation. They are not co-ordinated, they are unilateral and they are taken without a necessary level of preliminary consultations in order to prevent the negative impact they may have on people on the ground. The EU has reacted to two actions, issued a statement last week by the High Representative, and was supported by the European Commission as additional statements by international EU partners. And then over the weekend we have reacted to the last shares of police in northern Kosovo again with our international partners”, Stano said.
He further stressed that unilateral steps could lead to escalation of the situation. And he asked that the pagans return to the EU-enlightened dialogue.
So of course it's disturbing to see that the sequencing of unilateral steps can lead to something we don't want to see, and that's the escalation of the situation on the ground because one thing is clear: it doesn't contribute to calming the situation and making people feel that their lives are improving. So the exact opposite. So that's why it's important that we go back to the dialogue facilitated by the EU and engage very seriously. Work on him is continuing every day, and EU representative Lajcak is working with partners both in the region and the EU, and of course with the wide international community to enable both sides to start acting constructively and to return to the negotiating table and discuss issues that are really important without making unilateral steps. I am not able to warn an exact date and the EU representative has his day-to-day duties and is engaged, but we hope that at some point we will be able to warn a high-level meeting that is a meeting between the president of Serbia and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, where we will try to solve the” issues, he said.
Stano called on Kosovo authorities to engage in the consultations process and avoid, as he says, the unilateral metemies because they have very counterproductive effects
