The US State Department has imposed sanctions on three Russian prison officials on Friday over the death of opposition image Alexey Navalny.
The sanctions affected Valeriy Gennadevich Boyariev, deputy director of the Federal Punishment Service, which has oversight of the criminal colony where Navalny died.
According to several DAS facts, Boyariev “reportedly instructed the prison staff to undergo harsher treatment of Navajo while he was in custody”.
After the death of Navajo, Boyariev was promoted to General Colonel by decree of Vladimir Putin”, the document said.
Sanctions also affect Igor Borisovich Rakitin, the general “head of Russia's Federal Punishment Service 1322 for Autonom Yamalo-Nenets region, in which the IK-3” Penal Colony is located, and Vadim Konstantinovich Kalinin, the prison guard.
