Minister for Communities and Return to the Government of Kosovo, Nenad Rassic, has said on Wednesday that during a meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the Kosovo Central Bank regulation (BQK) has agreed that the dinar ban is in a transition period.
The regulation of the CEC, which requires the euro to be the only currency available for cash payments across the country, went into effect on February 1st, despite the strong international pressure to delay its implementation.
He said the CEC governor, Ahmet Ismaili, has “mentioned that the transition phase could end at the end of February, but still if there is readiness from the other side, because any deadline we're giving him now would be incorrect”.
When I met the prime minister, we came to a conclusion, which is a transitional period so that users have an opportunity to prepare for the use of this regulation. Legally and technically this is the right way to continue”, Rassic said.
Kurti himself said yesterday that he understands that a period of transition is necessary <x0,”, adding that such a transition period has already begun.
Kosovo Prime Minister said that during this month authorities will provide information that <x0 this transition be as easy as possible”.
“A transition period should never be misinterpreted as attack or deepening division. And the brief uncertainty encountered during this period should not be used for political benefit”, Kurti said, according to a media report issued by his office on February 6th.
