Prime Minister Edi Rama has sent a grateful letter to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken after his visit to Albania on February 15th for the first time, where he remained for 8 hours and held several meetings.
“Letter to Secretary Blinken, following his meaningful visit to Tirana”, writes Rama.
On paper Rama stressed that Albania remains dedicated to joining the US alliance. It also extends its ambition for Albania to host the NATO Summit in 2027, as a country that has always shown its steadfast devotion to the unity and values of the Alliance.
PLOTH LET
With deep appreciation for my sincere gratitude to you and your delegation for your visit to Tirana on 15 February. I would also like to express my deep appreciation for all who defeated the visit, especially the American Embassy in Tirana.
Let me take this opportunity to reaffirm the Albanian government's steadfast commitment to our alliance with the United States and our common goals of promoting democracy, rule of law and human rights.
The Albanian government remains committed to supporting much needed reform of the rule of law as a critical basis of Albanian democracy and a vital pillar in our efforts to fight corruption. We also know the importance of working together to reform other critical sectors of society, which are essential to the success of Albania's EU integration path.
As we prepare for the upcoming NATO summit in DC, I would like to assure you of Albania's steadfast commitment to regional peace and stability. We believe it is essential to continue working together to ensure regional stability and to repel the external effects of democracy, as we shared during our meeting in Tirana.
I believe it's time for the Alliance to call a full Sam in the Western Balkans, for the first time ever. After our discussion in Tirana, I want to reiterate Albania's intention to host NATO Summit 2027, immediately after what will be held in 2026, which Turkey has freely offered to wait.
As an ally country, Albania has always shown its steadfast devotion to the unity and values of the Alliance. Moving forward to host the NATO Summit, she reiterates her role as a beacon of the Alliance's values and purpose in this part of Europe.
This event would be of historic and strategic importance both for the region and for the Alliance. It would convey the strong message that the region is of strategic importance to the Alliance.
Thank you again, Secretary Blinken, for your visit to Tirana and for your continued support in Albania's efforts to promote democracy and stability in the region”- it says in Rama's letter.
