The Northern Macedonia Assembly has dismissed two technical government ministers from the Alliance's ranks for Ships (ASH) Friday at midnight after supporting the party's proposal that in May elections the Albanian opposition bloc join the European League for Change. The dismissal of Health Minister Fatmir Mexhit and Minister of Administration and Information Society, Asian Aliu, has resulted in widespread tensions and controversy between the ruling parties and the opposition.
In rationalising their request for dismissal, technical Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi has said that “has no remarks on the work and professionalism of ministers Mexhidi and Aliu, but after joining Arben Taravari, must be removed, as in Government there cannot be two opposition subjects”.
The technical government, which has a 100-day mandate for organising and maintaining the upcoming parliamentary elections, also holds the Macedonian opposition led by VMRO DPMNE.
The dismissed minister, Fatmir Mexhit, accused the ruling parties that his “characterisation has been initiated for political interests” and that, according to him, the Democratic Union for Integration party (BDI) stands behind.
The dismissal of ministers comes ten days after the formation of the technical government on January 28th.
Instead, on Monday, February 12th, Ilir Demiri is expected to be appointed as Health Minister and Naim Bajrami as minister of Administration and Information Society.
The hearing was called by Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi after a party commission of the Alliance for Albanians (ASH), which is part of the technical government, proposed the dismissal of two of its ministers.
The decision has been made after the two ministers made public in support of the ASH chairman, Arben Taravari, to switch to opposition.
But that had prompted reactions to a part of the party led by its former leader, Ziadin Sela, the current chairman of the party's Parliament.
He for Saturday, February 10th, has called the decision to ascertain responsibility, but also the start of the party's dismissal procedure for Taravari.
But, Taravari has said that Sela does not have the support of the convents, as many have given support to his stance to make coalitions with the opposition.
The split in ASH has also been reflected in the Northern Macedonia Assembly.
The session has started with a three-hour delay since the ruling parties failed to ensure the necessary number of MPs for its launch, which was witnessed even with the vote, which resulted in a simple majority of 62 MPs. / REL
