Greece will speed up procedures for obtaining permission to stay, to pave the way for a large number of migrants to enter the labour market.

The Ministry of Migration and Asylum is assessing opportunities to regulate the legal framework, and then pass the proposal in the Assembly.

With the law in effect, migrants must wait up to three years for the renewal of residence permit and their numerous conduct has led the system to collapse.

Albanian immigrants will be the biggest beneficiaries of the new changes, since they make up about 60 %s of all residents legally, and behind them will be Georgians and Pakistanis.

The immigration directorates in Athics so far account for an estimated 200,000 residence permit applications pending.

In addition to reform of legal immigration, Greece is also working on new bilateral agreements with at least six countries, such as Moldova, Georgia, Armenia, India, Vietnam, and the Philippines, to get employees of these countries. /euronews. al
