Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netayah said he has ordered the army to prepare a plan to evacuate the population in Rafah prior to a expected Israeli invasion in this town south of Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu made that announcement Friday, February 9, after international criticism of Israel's plan to conquer this crowded city bordering Egypt.
Israel said Rafahu is Hamas' last raid on the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisation by the United States and the European Union, and has to send troops to complete its war plan against the radical Palestinian group.
It is estimated that 1.5 million Palestinians are located in the town of Rafah, having fled the fighting in other parts of Gaza.
Netanyah said on Friday that a massive “operation is necessary in Rafah. The Israeli prime minister said he has asked security officials to present “a double plan” would include evacuation of civilians and a military operation to “palyse” remaining units of Hamas.
Earlier, Egypt, which shares a border with Rafah, has said that any land operation in the Rafah area, or any major shift across the border, would undermine its 40-year peace treaty with Israel.
The war between Israel and Hamas was sparked after the radical Palestinian group carried out an attack south of Israel on October 7th, killing nearly 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping another 250. In Gaza, as a result of Israeli offensive, more than 27,000 Palestinians have been killed, many have moved, and a quarter of the population is on the verge of hunger.
