Sending NATO troops to Ukraine would not be in the West's” interest. That's what the Kremlin declared, commenting on the hypothesis thrown yesterday by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Kremlin warned on Tuesday that the conflict between Russia and the US-led NATO military alliance would become inevitable if European NATO members sent troops to fight in Ukraine.
The very fact of discussing the possibility of sending specific contingents to Ukraine from NATO countries is a very important new element”, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters when he was asked about Macro's comments.
Asked by journalists what the risks of a direct Russian conflict would be - NATO if NATO members sent their troops to fight in Ukraine, Peskov said: “in that case, we will have to talk not about probability, but about the inevitability of a direct conflict”.
A day earlier French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine. He warned there was no consensus on such a step at this stage, as the allies agreed to step up efforts to send more ammunition to Kiev.
