Two Kosovars made a vital contribution to the community they live in Sweden this weekend. They saved the life of a person who fell into the water.
As they returned home from their work shift, security guards Jalal Mulaj and Aziz Berisha saw a drunken man as he fell into the water a few seconds later.
After a dramatic effort, they finally managed to save their husband.
“would not rise itself”, Kosovar Aziz Berisha told Swedish media.
Aziz Berisha and Jelal Mulaj had just completed their shift as a security guard at Värnamo and had gone home. But the journey home suddenly took a sudden turn.
At three and a half o'clock on Saturday night, they saw a young man drunk on the footbridge over the Lagan River. But instead of continuing to walk on the bridge, it is diverted toward cold, water running.
While Azazi calls 112, Jelal rushed to the water. But it is dark, and when it reaches the river, it can no longer see a man.
I think I should jump in. So I take off my gear and as soon as you take off the vest, I see how you get out of the water”, he says.
I grab my fingers and pull it toward me. Once he grabs my hand, he refuses to let go, I can say he's panicking”, he says.
Jalal urges his husband to try to help with all his strength. And at last, Jalal manages to get it out of the river.
I don't know where I got the strength. He was both heavy and wet”, he says.
Later, both Jalal and Azazi are praised for the quick and decisive action. The drunk man was sent to the station.
I feel good about saving a life. We feel proud, we've worked in this profession for a few years and we want to help people in different situations”, Asia says.
