King Charles is diagnosed with cancer

Great Britain's King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer, declared by Buckingham Palace.

It's not prostate cancer, but it was discovered during his last treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The type of cancer has not been discovered, but according to a statement from the palace, the King began “regular treatment” on Monday.

Buckingham Palace says King “remains fully positive in regard to his treatment and expects him to return to full public office as soon as possible”.

He will postpone his public commitments, and it is expected that other royal family members will help support him during his treatment.

No further details are being given about the cancer stage or a prognosis.

Although he will ban his public events, the King will continue with his constitutional role as head of state.

He was seen at a church service in Sandringham on Sunday, where he surrendered to the crowds. He did a prostate procedure at a private hospital in London more than a week ago.

The king had chosen to publicly treat the prostate with the intention of encouraging more men to do prostate checks, the palace said at the time.

He was told he was glad he had raised awareness of the issue, with the NHS website reporting an increase in issues related to prostate conditions, the BBC writes.
