IPK publishes report: 156 police officials were investigated last year

According to this report, the IPK-based Investigation Department has investigated 156 police officers and 22 citizens last year, expressing 1.8% of the total number of police officers allegedly involved in criminal activity.

“The IPK in this reporting period has realised a total of 35 arrests (21 Kosovo Police officers and 14 citizens) under the reasonable suspicion that they have been involved in criminal activities, as well as recommended the suspension of 71 police officers”, the IPK report said.

2023 is considered successful for the IPK Investigation Directorate, based on data concerning the number of cases addressed, the number of criminal records, the number of arrested, suspended, etc.

In 2023, The DH has accepted 540 cases through the DMA under IPK, while 334 cases have continued treatment from the preliminary years in 2023, while D.H after conducting criminal investigations, 2 cases have been initiated for disciplinary investigation. The D.H. has addressed a total of 876 cases, including cases carried by the previous years, as well as cases admitted in this year”, the IPK report said.

Kosovo police have a total of 8826 employees, of whom 7958 are police officials with different degrees, while 868 are civilian personnel without police authorization.

During 2023, 2 major, 3 police captain, 7 lieutenant, 15 sergeants, 120 police officials, 1 cadets and 8 civil servants were investigated.

During 2023, 107 police officers engaged in regional directors have been investigated, with DDRP Pristina leading all directors with the largest number of investigators from its ranks, including the largest number of employees distributed to police stations.
