LDK MP Avdullah Hoti has said that in the north, the heads of four municipalities there are not elected by most people.
In Info Magazine of Klan Kosova, Hoti said we cannot boast about achievements in this part of Kosovo.
We cannot boast in Pristina that we have four mayors in the north, when they are elected by 2-3 percent. We cannot boast that we have extended sovereignty there, when there are no police in the Serb community there. We are in 2024, local government must stem from the citizens of that locality. We cannot take pride in extending our sovereignty with special forces there. There power extends to integrate that community into Kosovo institutions. It's a fact that that community is under Serbia's negative influence, but we have to do everything with our allies that we integrate”.
According to him, ministers' posts from the north of Kosovo are being made to deceive the broad opinion.
I don't believe that with police measures, sovereignty can be extended there. Certainly it prevents crime in that part of the country and becomes rule of law, but we need to extend constitutional and democratic governance to that part. I think they cheat the opinion of those officials who go and get puffed up by going through pictures there and with statements promoting economic development, going along with a mayor of the municipalities there who has 2-3 percent that nobody communicates with him, who stays 24 hours locked up in office, is a fraud of opinion to say there are more authorities of the state of Kosovo there. There have been about 700 Serb community police officers serving citizens in that part of the country under the command of the Kosovo Police with the Kosovo flag on its side. They have been judges and prosecutors who have made decisions at different levels of courts under Kosovo laws. That's how sovereignty extends. It is important”, the former prime minister said.
He said it is obvious that Serbia's influence on the Serb community in Kosovo continues to be powerful, but added it must be worked with the Serb community, along with the Allies, so that they can integrate into Kosovo institutions.
“I don't believe it's a good message that KFOR has quadrupled forces north of Kosovo. I'm not saying that Kosovo is guilty of the situation created there. These problems have been repeatedly initiated on the part of Serbia, but this time the Kosovo government has been trapped, even in the absence of co-ordination with the Allies, an unmanageable situation on the ground has been created. Only the work of the election of new mayors in the north is dragging on as long as”, Avdullah Hoti stressed.
