Ambassadors of the QUINT countries, including the US, Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy, have gone to Prime Minister Albin Kurti's office for an extraordinary meeting with him.
Express learned that after the meeting, US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Havenier would speak to the media at 11:30, but the meeting has lasted.
Ambassador Houvenier said late Saturday that with recent actions, the Government of Kosovo is raising tensions unnecessarily.
“The United States is deeply concerned about the recent actions of the Kosovo Government authorities, which have direct and negative impact on members of the Serb minority and other minorities in Kosovo”, Havenier said in a statement issued shortly before midnight.
Severe reactions by internationals came after Kosovo closed several parallel municipalities in the country. Reactions that initially began in connection with the Kosovo Central Bank's intention to remove the Serbian dinar from use were exacerbated following confirmation by the Interior Minister that four Serb parallel municipalities have been closed in Dragash, Peja, Istog and Kline.
The European Union reacted with concern over the closure of Serb parallel municipalities and called on Kosovo institutions to resolve this issue in talks with Serbia in the dialogue.
The EU said that the unexpected <x0) closure of these offices would have negative consequences on daily life and the living conditions of Serb communities in Kosovo, because it would limit their access to basic social services given the lack of alternatives at this moment”.
“The status of these structures is meant to be resolved through EU-extensive dialogue concerning the establishment of the Association of Serb majority municipalities”, said the communique issued by the bloc.
Supporting the EU's response, Germany's ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde also reacted Sunday, writing in “X” that the unilateral “measures are only throwing gasoline to the fire”, and that they are “the opposite of lowering”. /photo: illustration
