US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier has warned consequences to the quality of partnership with Kosovo, if Prime Minister Albin Kurti does not listen to US demands on various issues.
“To the extent that the government is responsible for the things we believe are important and which we believe advance Kosovo's European and Euro-Atlantic trajectory increases our partnership. To the extent that the government does not respond, this affects the quality of our partnership”, has declared Havenier at RTV 21.
The American ambassador has said they are not seeing that the government is responding to their many demands.
“It is not wrong to say we are concerned and we would like to see greater accountability to our demands from what we are seeing as we have at this time”
Hüvenier has said the election process in northern municipalities is going too slowly.
He says he will not have the patience to wait too long.
I know we are at the conclusion of an important step that is that petitions are signed, they have indicators that more than 20 percent of registered voters who have signed these petitions, but only the Central Election Commission can confirm that. But once that happens, it is important that authorities do everything possible to ensure that the next step takes place without delay. And we will not be so patient. The next step should take place within the projected deadline, which I think is 45 days”, Havenier declared.
He has said Kurti Government is also being asked by Washington to postpone this decision.
Our request is very clear. We are asking the government, not only I, there are requests from Washington as well, but my QUINT colleagues have that view, that the government would for now have to postpone the implementation of Central Bank regulation”, Houvenier said.
He has said that they are seeking it because of the need to be done in preparation so that minority communities do not have a negative impact.
We're looking for this because we believe that the pre-preparative work needed for its successful implementation so that there should be no unjust influence on the vulnerable communities and we're talking about minority communities, we're talking, among other things, about the ethnic Serb community in Kosovo that the work has to be done, which has to be done to avoid its negative impact has not been made”, Havener has indicated.
