Former head of the Kosovo Economic Ode (OEK), Safet Gerjaliu, has said regulating Kosovo Central Bank (BQK) that prohibits the use of the dinar for payments within the state is shot, but under wrong circumstances.
He has said that this very decision will accelerate the establishment of the Serb majority municipalities.
Gerxhaliu has estimated that this decision has not had to be made at a time when Kosovo was under sanctions from the European Union.
According to him, such a decision is “the great gift for Serbia”.
I've said in the past as well, but I still say today that the Central Bank's decision has been a hit decision, but in circumstances and in very bad political or strategic conditions. And in this direction today Kosovo pays a huge cost of lack of real dialogue, whether in the interest or even with the international factor, in particular with European states and the United States of America. A decision has been brought at the time when Kosovo was under EU sanctions, a regulation was imposed at the time we were in the dialogue process with Serbia. Such a decision was brought when Kosovo's application for membership in the Council of Europe was expected, strengthening the Partnership for Peace with NATO and making such a decision is the greatest gift anyone could have done to Serbia and Serbian diplomacy”, Gerjaliu has said of “Ekonomia Online”.
Furthermore, Gerjaliu has said that the CEC's decision accelerates even more the creation of the Serb majority municipalities.
“With this decision, Kosovo will definitely be damaged in various forms until the elimination of sanctions in front of Kosovo is required to bring about a decision that vows this EU stance and certainly these sanctions will be further in place and there will be other measures, and what I have warned it will be the negative effect of such an uncoordinated and reckless regulation. It is a process of accelerating the creation of association, and the very fact that today the dinar theme is not a bilatheral problem between Kosovo and Serbia, but it is a political issue carried in Brussels and international pressure is over Kosovo, I believe it is the greatest damage Kosovo could do at this time” has said Gerjaliu, adding that such a decision should not be taken at the time when the Serbian-based financial institution, <x2komercial Banka<3x> was closing in Kosovo.
The “will be the pretext for the dinar a pressure on Kosovo policymakers from the international factor to speed up the process of creating association. Politicalisation of the dinar and the introduction of the European agenda is a damage that Kosovo really will harm, because Kosovo has no diplomatic or economic power to prevent this campaign and this propaganda of Serbia, and in this respect I believe we agree. Kosovo has made an automobile so dangerous, what a penalty can be in favour of Kosovo's future and Kosovo citizens”, Grjaliu has said.
