American State Secretary Antony Blinken has arrived in Saudi Arabia for his fifth visit to the Middle East since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas on 7 October.
He is also expected to visit Egypt, Qatar, Israel and the West Coast over the next five days.
Ahead of his trip, Blinken had stressed that the humanitarian situation in Gaza should be addressed <x0 customally”. Local and international aid groups have repeatedly called for a ceasefire there, reports the BBC.
Blinken's visit comes after US air strikes against Iran-backed forces in Iraq, Syria and Yemen following an attack on an American base in Jordan that killed three American soldiers.
There are also reports of a rift with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who appears at odds with the United States over Gaza's post-war future.
